RTV

Dealing with 4-D ultrasound requires specialized software. Using a Mylab 70 XVG ultrasound scanner (Esaote Europe B.V., Maastricht, The Netherlands) with its research interface “ART.LAB” we developed a GPU-based real time visualization prototype (“RealTimeVisualization”, RTV).
The main features of RTV are:

  • access the ultrasound scanner
  • collect the raw data
  • reconstruct the image data from raw data
  • visualize the image data in 2-D (MPR) or 4-D (MIP, DVR, …) mode
  • interactively change the volume rendering technique
  • manipulate the transfer function “on the fly”

RTV also integrates the real time version of the needle detection. Current and future works will extend RTV to a full – 4-D ultrasound based - real time navigation platform.
