Enhanced visualization of liver vessels

The detection and the staging of tumors and their metastases in parenchymatous epigastric organs can nowadays be improved by the enormous
increase of imaging system’s efficiency. For therapy planning and follow up studies, a spatial assignment of the findings to anatomical main structures like vessels is helpful. Specifically adapted automatic computer-based segmentation improves the visibility of such structures. (jpg. delineated liver vessel)
After the segmentation, even structures which are not clearly visible in the raw image volume can be visualized. The animation shows:

  •     an original gray-scale 3-D ultrasound image volume,
  •     the overlay of automatically segmented vessels (red),
  •     and the vessel tree after rejection of the raw image volume.
